cut

The cut of the diamond determines how well the diamond reflects light. This is what gives a fine diamond it’s sparkle and fire. When we refer to cut, we are talking about the proportions and finish of the stone, not it’s shape.

There are many combinations of proportions that can be very beautiful, and different people will prefer different proportions. However, a very shallow cut, or a very deep cut, will not properly return light to your eyes. Instead of reflecting light back through the top of the diamond, the light will reflect out of the bottom and sides.

The best way to determine which cut you like is to look at and compare diamonds to each other. We have an extensive selection of well cut diamonds to choose from.

clarity

Clarity is the presence, or absence, of inclusions (objects in the diamond such as small crystals, feathers, or clouds). Nearly all diamonds have some inclusions. The higher the clarity of a diamond, the fewer inclusions it will have, and the rarer it is.

The clarity of a diamond is graded at 10x magnification. Magnification is required to see most of these characteristics down to the SI1-2 range (this depends on the shape and cut of the diamond). Below this range, a diamond will usually have inclusions that can be seen without magnification.

We would be happy to advise and show you diamonds of many different clarities.

color

The best color is no color. The less color your diamond has, the rarer, and more valuable it is.

D, E and F ratings are considered the colorless range. G through J is the near-colorless range. Stones in this range will generally not show a tint when set in a ring. Below this range diamonds will become increasingly tinted in yellow and brown.

The beauty of a diamond is the result of the interaction of all its qualities. We invite you to come in and see our large selection of diamonds to decide which is most beautiful to you.
